Learn - How To Maintain Your Shirts?

To buy a quality men's shirt, we are pretty good at it. All we need is to find a renowned brand’s showroom. But when it comes to following care labels, that's another story:

If you've ever had a shirt rubbed off, machine-shrunk, or burnt with an iron, you're not alone. Most of us have made these mistakes. But not anymore! Today we offer you the complete guide to maintaining your shirt according to its fabric.

Caring For Your Cotton Shirt

Cotton is a rather simple material to maintain. As long as you take care to read the washing labels, taking care of your cotton shirt is a snap.

Washing A Cotton Shirt

For the maintenance of woolen shirts, we opt for a machine wash at 30 ° or 40 ° maximum. Remove the reinforcing ribs from the collar to prevent them from twisting. Also, it helps to avoid the points of the collar from wearing out prematurely. Do not mix the shirt with dangerous objects that could damage it (zipper, very thick jeans, brand new red boxer shorts if it is a light shirt).

On the laundry side, favor a good powder or liquid detergent. But do not force the dose of detergent, it will not clean your laundry better: just stick to the indicated dose. To finish, add a little fabric softener and select the moderate spin speed. With these tips, your shirt should come out like a new penny, with no denting!

Drying A Cotton Shirt

Avoid the dryer and opt for the clothes horse. For your shirts, this is really ideal. Alternatively, you can hang them on a hanger to let them dry and make ironing easier. In all cases, the shirt is always straightened before drying it. And we avoid the direct sun which yellows white clothes.

Ironing a Cotton Shirt

Let us worn you, ironing a shirt is a real headache. Especially when you erase a fold on one side to reveal one on the other side. You will understand this when you will iron your cotton shirt. That is why I prefer woolen shirts over cotton. They do not require ironing. However, coming back to cotton, each iron has a “cotton” program. This can ease your task a little bit. Prefer ironing your shirt while still slightly damp with a steam iron for a better and faster result.

Maintenance Tips For Your Linen Shirt

Linen is the ultimate summer material. We love it, but we rarely know how to maintain a linen shirt. Yet it is one of the easiest fabrics to live with!

Wash Your Linen Shirt

Since it is a very resistant natural fiber, linen can withstand high machine temperatures well which will facilitate the care of your shirt: we recommend washing at 40 ° for optimal results! On the other hand, wringing can be a disaster because when the linen is crumpled, it is very difficult to make it look smooth. To avoid this to happen, choose a moderate spin. It is indicated on the machine, and it will save you tens of minutes ironing!

Drying Your Linen Shirt

Your beautiful linen shirt cannot be machine dried. Therefore prefer natural drying, in the open-air without exposing it to the sun. We advise you to put your linen shirt on a hanger or on a drying rack, flat, to avoid creases.

Ironing Your Linen Shirt

Linen is particularly difficult to iron because it creases quickly. But it is also this characteristic that makes all its charm. We, therefore, advise you to iron your linen shirt when it is still damp or to spray a little water before ironing. Some irons offer a “linen” mode; otherwise, you just have to set the appliance to maximum power to smooth your shirt. Iron your shirt inside out to avoid creases and highlighted iron marks on the fabric.

Merino wool - Washing and Drying

Merino shirts for mens offer many benefits for you. Indeed, merino wool regulates body temperature by effectively wicking away perspiration while insulating from the cold. It prevents bad odors because it is naturally antibacterial. Unlike conventional woolen clothing, these eco shirts are extremely easy to care for. However, even if this fiber requires less maintenance, you should still wash your merino wool clothes after a few uses so that they retain all their properties. Here are some tips for washing and caring for these heavy wool shirts:

There are three ways to wash merino wool:

By Hand:

For this method, you will need a basin of lukewarm water and a special wool detergent (if you do not have special detergent, you can use a mild soap with neutral pH or even diluted baby shampoo) . Leave to soak for a few minutes and rub gently. Rinse several times with lukewarm water. Wring out your garment without twisting it and sponge up the excess water with a bath towel. Lay out flat for drying.

In the machine:

Put your garment inside out, incorporate the special wool detergent and choose a cycle suitable for fragile or cold laundry (hot water can shrink wool) and limit the spin cycle to a moderate speed. To prevent your wool from pilling, wash your merino wool with a thicker fabric such as jeans. To dry it, lay your garment flat away from heat sources.

With dry cleaning:

When it is necessary to remove particularly stubborn grease stains, bring your eco-friendly shirts to the dry cleaner closest to you.
